Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) allows you to compare a protein or DNA sequence (the "query") to a database of other DNA or protein sequences. The main BLAST server is located at the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). The NCBI site offers excellent BLAST tutorials.
